Kemampuan Multibahasa: Tinjauan Area Otak dan Pengaruh Lingkungan

Prevalensi individu dengan kemampuan lebih dari satu bahasa meningkat tajam. Hal ini dipengaruhi oleh faktor internal berupa aktivitas otak dan eksternal berupa lingkungan. Namun, masih sangat minim artikel yang dapat mengintegrasikan penjelasan kedua faktor tersebut dalam kemampuan multibahasa. Tujuan penulisan artikel ini adalah untuk mengulas area otak dan faktor lingkungan yang mempengaruhi kemampuan multibahasa. Metode penelitian menggunakan narrative literature review dengan menghimpun sumber-sumber artikel terdahulu yang relevan dari berbagai database dan mesin pencarian yang dirangkum menjadi suatu artikel ilmiah. Mekanisme pemrosesan kemampuan multibahasa menjadi lebih rumit karena adanya seleksi dan inhibisi terkait konflik leksikal dalam komunikasi. Kondisi tersebut juga menyebabkan volume dan kepadatan area otak pada individu yang mampu lebih dari satu bahasa lebih tinggi. Selain itu, faktor eksternal yang mempengaruhi kemampuan individu untuk menguasai lebih dari satu bahasa meliputi globalisasi, migrasi, dan pelestarian identitas budaya. Konteks latar belakang budaya, termasuk dukungan masyarakat, dan pengalaman pendidikan multilingual juga mendorong individu untuk mampu berbicara banyak bahasa.
